WILD Movie Review

Starring : Reese Witherspoon , Laura Dern.

Story Line: This movie is based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed , Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail. It is about her struggle to come to peace with life after losing her mother to cancer.

What I liked : I found the movie to be very powerful ,right from the beginning of the Pacific Crest trail to the end. Her journey from being double minded and confused about continuing the trek to being a confident person when she completes it . As Cheryl(Reese Witherspoon) rightfully says, everybody has problems ,it is upto you to share it or not. Reese Witherspoon has played the role of Cheryl Strayed with conviction . The title of the movie , Wild, pays justice to story of the protoganist , who gets destructive upon losing her mother . She gets hooked up to sex with strangers , drugs and alcohol. After her divorce with her husband , she decided to go on the 1000 mile journey across the Pacific Crest Trail, with no prior experience in trekking,, to seek self discovery. Her transition from wild to tame is something that has to be watched for , in the movie. This movie swings back and forth between the current scenario and Strayed’s flashback.
Another strong character in the
movie , Strayed’s mother played by Laura Dern. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the Academy awards of 2015. The relation between the daughter and mother is very heartwarming.
What I didn’t like : I feel more focus could have been given on the husband – wife relation .
My favourite Quote from the movie : It was my life - like all lives, mysterious and irrevocable and sacred. So very close, so very present, so very belonging to me.
How wild it was, to let it be.”
Ratings :
IMDB : 7.2
Rotten Tomatoes : 90%
